Aaqib Javed clears Lahore Qalandars’ captaincy rumors

Bumper prize for Lahore Qalandars on winning PSL 2022

Aaqib Javed, the coach of Lahore Qalandars, has cleared the captaincy rumors revolving around sacking Sohail Akhtar and choosing Shaheen Shah Afridi instead.

He said the franchise has not decided on the synopsis yet and is yet in the consideration process.

Notably, Qalandars ended at the fifth spot winning five out of ten games during the PSL 2021. Although their journey during PSL 2020 was incredible under Akhtar but they got back to the usual in the next season.

Seeking continual disappointment, Qalandars are considering naming another captain as the rumors for Afridi circulate across social media. On the one hand, Aaqib denied the news but maintained that the fast bowlers can lead the team well.

He believes the one who can team to the climax should be named as the captain. Any such decision will be announced before the PSL 2022 kick starts.

“It’s too early to say as we have not decided to name Shaheen or any other individual for captaincy yet. We are considering everything,”

“I think the captain should be the one who can take the team even higher,”

“Fast bowlers can lead the side better. Batsmen also can lead well but fast bowlers like Imran Khan control the team more successfully. About the captaincy, the announcement will be made near the beginning of the league,”

The league is envisioned to be played in Lahore and Karachi from late January 2022 and will run until February 2022.

Moreover, Karachi Kings, the winners of the PSL 2020, have named Babar Azam as their new captain as Imad Wasim will progress to serve as the common player.
