AB De Villiers points out problem in Pakistan squad

Former South African cricketer AB De Villiers has pointed out the shortcomings in Pakistan squad ahead of the all-important SA vs Pak clash, as the two teams meet on Thursday.

Pakistan are on the blink of an early exit after being thrashed away against India and Zimbabwe, respectively. Although they managed to triumph against the Netherlands in the subsequent match, yet they are too much reliant on other teams’ wins and losses in order to qualify for the semifinal.

De Villiers understands that Pakistan’s batting has always cost them adversely. While talking on his YouTube channel, he pointed out Pakistan’s poor batting as the problem why they are having an unstable journey throughout the World Cup.

He believes the team gears up because of opening duo Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam on multiple occasions but when they fail, the entire line-up collapses.

“The batting side of Pakistan has always been a problem, it was never solid enough. It always goes up and down, and I feel they are in a place of consistency because of Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan,”

While heaping praises on Azam, the ex-Proteas player narrated,

“Babar Azam is an amazing player. I watched him play for the first time, saying this boy can play. He is a fantastic addition to Pakistan’s success, and it’s great to see young generations taking ownership,”

Notably, Babar is yet to impress the lookouts with his batting skills. In three games, he has been able to score only eight runs. In contrast, he was the top run-scorer of ICC T20 World Cup 2021.
