Afghanistan's victory over Sri Lanka is an open warning to others

Afghanistan’s batting and bowling departs showcased brilliance versus Sri Lanka as Asia Cup 2022 opening encounter took place on Saturday at Dubai International Stadium. Not only were the bowlers terrific throughout the first inning, but the batters were equally explosive to give hefty blows to the hosts’ bowlers whilst chasing.

Mohammad Nabi chose to chase on winning the toss and conceded an underdog target of 106 runs from 120 balls. The likes of Fazalhaq Farooqi, Mohammad Nabi, and Mujeeb ur Rehman fluttered Sri Lanka’s batting line-up. Efforts of Farooqi are worth mentioning; who did not only shake the team’s top-order but also plucked a three-wicket haul conceding only 11 runs in 3.4 overs.

Rashid, although he failed to pluck a wicket, shone with an excellent economy of three, delivering all four overs. Mujeeb was another asset contributing with two scalps on yielding 24 runs in four overs. Nabi did not do fewer wonders either, with two wickets and conceded 14 runs in four overs.

Afghanistan Cricket Team is in everyone’s convo right now. Hazratullah Zazai and Rehmanullah Gurbaz put a solid start with their smokey batting. Zazai’s 37 off 28 with the assistance of Gurbaz’s 40 just off 18 balls almost complete the chase, only 17 runs away, that were brought with the help of two Zadrans; Ibrahim and Najibullah with 15 and 2 respectively.

Their victory over Sri Lanka in such a havoc manner is an open threat to other teams not to take them lightly. Such an improved showcase means they are ready to tackle every obstacle coming their way, including teams of another group in the Super 4 round.
