England Cricket Team is scheduled to tour Pakistan in September 2022 for a seven-match t20I series. As already known, the England and Wales Cricket Board cancelled the Pakistan tour before the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 citing COVID and players’ mental well-being reasons. Consequently, the number of matches was increased to seven with the mutual decisions of two boards, ECB and PCB.
Tri-nation series to feature Pakistan, Bangladesh, and New Zealand before T20 World Cup 2022
Notably, the T20I series will also act as a practice panel for the two teams ahead of the all-important event, the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia in October and November. However, it has been reported that the PCB has asked the ECB to prepone the T20I series and send the squad a bit earlier. It is due to the reason that the cricket-loving nation is reportedly interested in the tri-nation series in New Zealand. And, will want to play with Bangladesh as the third team before the T20 World Cup 2022.
The PCB is keen to practice well and execute in the upcoming World Cup so the destiny of the 2021 event does not repeat itself. Pakistan were the giants of the T20 World Cup 2021 thrashing all teams in the Group Stage including New Zealand and India. However, they lose to Australia in the semifinal. All the mentioned initiatives are reportedly taken to practice more and tackle the obstacles in the World Cup more efficiently.
It must be noted the ECB is yet to respond to PCB’s query. If it agrees, the Eng vs Pak T20I series is likely to begin on 15th September. After the ECB clarification, the PCB will officially accept NZC’s request for the tri-nation series including Bangladesh. As far as the T20 World Cup 2022 is concerned, the mega event is scheduled to kick-start on the 16th of October.
