All you need to know about Andrew Symonds' memorial service

The world is yet to get over the death of Australian cricketer Andrew Symonds who died on May 14th meeting a car accident. His car spun off the road on the outskirts of the Townsville area of Queensland and the cricketer died on the spot. Andrew, aged 46, will be paid tribute by his friends and former teammates at the memorial service which will be held in North Queensland, a place close to his house.

At the memorial service, Andrew’s close friend, poet Rupert McCall will recite a poem dedicated to the legendary cricketer. Ian Healy, Adam Gilchrist, Darren Lehmann, Jimmy Maher, and Matthew Mott will also speak recalling memories with the all-rounder. The Riverway Stadium event will also be broadcasted live at Symonds’ former home ground at the Queensland Cricketers’ Club.

Before the public memorial, his family and friends will gather at the private memorial service on Friday morning, with a strict dress code to be followed. No jackets and ties will be allowed. Many retired Queensland players spent the last week supporting one another through the Bulls Masters charity and public speaking group. Fans have also left fishing rods and cricket balls in front of their homes as an honour to Symonds.

Andrew Symonds’ memorial service will begin at 2:30 PM, with the gates to be opened at 2:00 PM. A report by Cricket Australia confirmed that the event will be live-streamed, and the broadcasting mediums will be announced in a shorter course.

Notably, the last three months have been difficult for Cricket Australia (CA) as they are mourning the loss of three great cricketers including Rod Marsh, Shane Warne, and Symonds respectively. You can read about Warne’s death here.
