Ehsan Mani, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that Asia Cup will be taking place in 2022. The story of the Asia Cup goes like as follows:
The 2020 edition of the ACC tournament was all set to take place in August-September. As COVID cases rose, the related authorities had left with no option but to cancel the Asia Cup 2020.
The cancelation was followed by the termination of the ICC T20 World Cup which will now be taking place in 2022. Amidst the poor health conditions, it was decided that Asia Cup will be placed somewhere in 2021’s window.
After a pile of cricketing events scheduled, the Asian teams are busy coiling up them. India, one of the most important parts of the ACC’s event, will be playing the final of the ICC World Test Championship in June.
Bangladesh’s players will be getting involved in their series soon whereas, the PCB has scheduled the remaining matches of the HBL PSL 6 in June.
Mani, despite knowing that Asia Cup has been scheduled for June, intervened remaining PSL 6 matches as he surely claimed regarding the cancellation of ACC’s event earlier.
He suspected that there are fewer chances for the tournament to proceed ahead and if it happens, Pakistan won’t be a participant. The ACC government had no option but to cancel it as Pakistan is one of the crucial Asian sides as a participant.
As of now, as per reliable sources, Mani has confirmed the cancellation of the Asia Cup saying it will not be taking place before 2022.
