  2. With his impressive performance, Babar Azam is now in prime position to break Rohit Sharma’s record and cement his place as one of the greatest T20I batsmen of all time.
  3. Babar’s century helped his side take a 2-0 lead against New Zealand, and he continues to impress in T20I cricket with 33 scores of fifty or more in the format.

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam is closing in on the record of Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma, who currently tops the International Cricket Council (ICC) list with four centuries in T20I matches. Babar scored his third T20I century during a five-match series against New Zealand at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Saturday, becoming the only Pakistan batter with more than one ton in the format.

After Rohit and Babar, the players with the most T20I tons are Czech player Sabawoon Davizi with three tons and five fifties, Australia’s Glenn Maxwell with three tons and ten fifties, New Zealand’s Colin Munro with three tons and eleven fifties, and India’s Suryakumar Yadav with three tons and thirteen fifties.

During the match against New Zealand, Babar put on a 99-run opening stand with wicket-keeper Mohammad Rizwan, before Rizwan was dismissed by Matt Henry. Babar managed to score his half-century on just 36 balls and then slammed 51 runs off the next 22 deliveries, including 36 runs off the last three overs. He smashed James Neesham for two fours and a six in the last over, completing his 100 runs off the final ball of the innings.

Babar’s performance helped his side to a 2-0 lead and he also shared an unbeaten 87-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Iftikhar Ahmed. As a result, Pakistan was able to restrict their opponents to 154/7.

It’s worth noting that both Babar and Rohit have 33 scores of fifty or more in T20Is, which is second only to Virat Kohli, who has 38 such scores. With his impressive performance, Babar is now in prime position to break Rohit’s record and cement his place as one of the greatest T20I batsmen of all time.
