Babar Azam further drops down in ICC T20I rankings

Pakistani skipper Babar Azam has further dropped down in ICC T20I rankings for batsmen, as the International Cricket Council (ICC) updated its ranking portfolio on Wednesday. The right-handed batter did not enjoy a great stint in the recently winded up Asia Cup 2022. He could not surpass 15 or more runs in a single match.

The inconsistent performances dropped him to second place, as his counterpart Mohammad Rizwan became brand new world’s number 1 T20I batsmen. Later, since his mediocre performances continued, Azam was replaced by South Africa’s Aiden Markram as World’s number 2 T20I batsman. Pakistan are currently encountering England in a T20I series at home, and the start has not brought delights for their captain.

Despite trying, he could not settle on fire alongside Rizwan at opening, and departed on 31 from 24. As a result, the updated ICC rankings see him dropping down to the fourth spot. Azam has been replaced with India’s Suryakumar Yadav, who, in the last days, was on the verge of becoming number 1 T20I batter, but could not.

The terrific Indian batter slammed 46 versus Australia in the first match of the three-match series in Mohali. The batter has been amassing decent runs unlike Azam to replace the rank on the ICC T20I rankings for batters’ table. It must be noted that Babar has stayed World’s number 1 T20I batter for most number of days, holding the slot on and off. He surpassed the prior record of Virat Kohli, who managed to stay in the feat for 1013 days.
