I am not selfish, clarifies Babar Azam on the criticism he gets

Babar Azam, the captain of the Pakistan Cricket Team, was spotted in a virtual press conference arranged by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) today. He was asked multiple questions by different journalists to which he answered as per his understandings.

Among the long list of questions, he was asked about the term ‘selfish’ he is termed so often on behalf of his some innings. Discarding the views, he first mentioned that everyone has different point of views but it cannot be selfishness as he plays according to the team’s and play’s requirements.

Everyone has their own opinion but I won’t call it selfish, I play according to the requirements of the team. Sometimes you have to play aggressively and sometimes you have to change your game according to the team’s capability,

He added that people terming him as a selfish player do not bother him.

As a player, I have to bat along with others and play all over. I don’t bother that much what people are saying.

Along with that, he was asked to present his opinion on Shoaib Malik’s tweet that came recently ahead of the selecting woes. Malik added that the team should be handed over to the international coaches who are the best decision-makers and do not select players on behalf of favoritism.

Babar said that the same topic should not be a part of every press conference and such kinds of comments should be discarded.

This debate should end now. The same thing is repeated in every press conference that I don’t have any control over the selection,

He added that the captain is not allowed to present his opinion by the PCB. Neglecting his thoughts, Babar said that he has complete authority to choose the playing XI from the squad that is finalized by the selection committee. He feels that the team does not need any international coach.

You can see on the field that I handle everything. I decide the playing XI. Management gives their input. I know my responsibilities as a captain,

I don’t have any problem with the coach. This is the domain of PCB. Team management is fully supporting every player, so I am happy.
