BBL, Scorchers vs Thunders: Twitter reacts aggressively on wrong umpiring call

Scorchers vs Thunders: The Big Bash League (BBL) often witnesses the worst umpiring blunders as umpires make horrendous decisions. Today, in the Perth Scorchers vs Sydney Thunders’ encounter, the on-field umpire, Simon Lightfield, made a clearly wrong decision turning all social criticism towards him.

In the sixth over when Andre Tie came to deliver his ball to Usman Khwaja, his delivery clearly hit the edge of Khwaja’s bat. Clearly edged and the umpire did not listen to the clicking sound, astonishing!

For years, the spectators are asking for the DRS technology to get used in the T20 league but as the financial crisis has hit Cricket Australia hard during the pandemic, CA has restricted introducing it. Hence, the on-field umpires continue to make decisions resulting in howls.

The incident took place in the sixth over of the Thunders’ run chase and the Scorchers celebrated passionately. Simon Lightbody was the only person on the field who did not hear the ball edging with the bat’s sound.

Tye immediately confronted Lightbody, who explained: “I thought the bat hit the ground mate.”

Tye fumed: “How did the bat hit the ground? It was that far off the ground!”

Lightbody replied: “That’s what I thought.”

Let us see a few of the Tweets as fans are going aggressively crazy over the scenario.
