BCCI announces IPL 2022 opening date

The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2022) is set to kick-start on 26th March. After a thrilling two-day IPL 2022 mega auction, it’s time to welcome the marquee event, which was earlier expected to begin from 27th March. The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to announce the full schedule and has only released the opening date.

According to reliable sources, the IPL 2022 opening date was decided in the league’s governing meeting, which took place on 24th February. This year’s event will feature 10 teams, with the addition of two new IPL teams named Lucknow Super Giant and Gujarat Titans. It must be noted the schedule for the event will be on-screened within the upcoming week.

Moreover, it has also been learned that the extravaganza will witness a crowd as per the Maharashtra policies. The place is all set to embrace to entire tournament. With a motive of completely organizing IPL 2022 in India, the BCCI named Maharashtra as the possible venue after an improvement in the COVID cases. Even though, it was assumed the league will take place in the UAE, South Africa, Sri Lanka, or some other place.

The chairman Brijish Patel stated,

“The IPL will kick off on March 26, the full schedule will come soon. We will also have crowds but as per the policy of the Maharashtra government. Whether it will be 25 or 50 percent of the stadium capacity will be decided by the government instruction,”

A total of 70 matches will be played in IPL 2022 including 55 in Mumbai and 15 in Pune across four venues- Wankhede Stadium, Brabourne, DY Patil, and the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) respectively.
