The highly anticipated 2023 ODI World Cup in India is fast approaching, generating immense excitement among passionate Indian cricket fans. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) carries the weighty responsibility of organizing a blockbuster event this time around, surpassing the success of the previous edition held in 2011. Nevertheless, amid these developments, the BCCI has finalized 15 venues that are likely to host matches during the World Cup, scheduled to take place from October 5 to November 19. According to a statement from BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, the schedule for the 2023 edition of this esteemed ODI competition will be unveiled during the World Test Championship final between India and Australia, to be held at The Oval in London.
Over the course of the 46-day tournament, passionate cricket enthusiasts can look forward to witnessing 48 matches. The BCCI has shortlisted several cities to potentially host these matches, including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Dharamsala, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Kolkata, Lucknow, Nagpur, Pune, Rajkot, Mumbai, and Trivandrum.
With the World Cup just months away, the BCCI is diligently working towards finalizing the schedule and is expected to submit it to the International Cricket Council (ICC) in the near future.
Considering the home advantage, Team India is widely regarded as one of the favorites to clinch the ODI World Cup. In the last three editions, the host country has emerged as the champions, further raising expectations for the Indian cricket team to perform at their best and reclaim the prestigious trophy after a gap of 12 years. While the recent defeat to Australia in a three-match ODI series raised some questions about the team’s capabilities, they also convincingly triumphed over Sri Lanka and New Zealand, highlighting their potential to excel in home conditions.
