The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially confirmed the start date of the highly anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL) 17th season, slated to kick off on March 22, 2024. The announcement comes after Arun Dhumal, the chairman of BCCI’s governing council, initially hinted at the start date a day earlier.

Dhumal expressed confidence in the start date and revealed that the tournament will commence at the Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. He emphasized the importance of monitoring the situation closely and aligning the tournament’s later stages with the dates of the general elections in India.

The IPL 2024 opener is scheduled between the Chennai Super Kings and the Royal Challengers Bangalore, promising an electrifying start to the season. Following the opener, on March 24, the Gujarat Titans are set to clash with the Mumbai Indians, adding to the excitement of the tournament’s early matches.

While the BCCI has released a partial schedule covering the first two weeks (17 days) of the IPL, the remaining fixtures will be unveiled later, with the schedule being contingent on the polling dates for the upcoming general elections in India.
