Big blow for Hardik Pandya ahead of IPL 2022

Big blow for Hardik Pandya ahead of IPL 2022

It has not been a month since the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) curled up the fourteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) at the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and clocks are now ticking for IPL 2022 auction.

It is going to be a mega auction this time following the addition of two new IPL teams. Two days ago, the BCCI named two bidders for the teams as RPSG Ventures Ltd, and  Irelia Company Pte Ltd (CVC Capital Partners) are the interested parties with 7090 and 5625 INR Crores for Lucknow, Ahmedabad teams respectively.

The ten teams will undergo 14 games; 7 away, 7 home, which makes a total of 74 IPL 2022 games. With all the necessary requirements, the eight pre-existing franchises are mandated to retain up to four of their players.

Which franchise will pick Hardik Pandya for IPL 2022?

The most successful franchise, Mumbai Indians, that did not have a sound season this time, are unlikely to retain their star, Hardik Pandya, following his healed, yet disturbing injury. Which franchise will pick Pandya is still an unanswered question.

Pandya, the terrific all-rounder, suffered an acute lower-back injury that was healed after surgery in London. However, he has not been able to bowl since then and was not seen in action with the ball in IPL 2021 as well.

As the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 is underway, Pandya is induced into the crew as the batsman. Following the fact, MI will reportedly not retain his services. Moreover, Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard, and Jasprit Bumrah are the three probable players MI will retain as revealed by an IPL official.

It is speculated that following the mega auction, composed of ten teams, and operations for the new teams yet to be announced from scratch, the IPL community may only allow three retentions for IPL 2022.

“At this point in time, there is less than 10 percent chance that Hardik will be retained by MI. Yes, he might just outperform everybody in the next few T20 World Cup games but even then, chances are dim. If there are four retentions or 1 RTM, then Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan are the contenders for that slot,”
