Blockbuster start for Gladiator’s Will Smeed on his PSL debut

A blockbuster start for Will Smeed in PSL 2022

Quetta Gladiator’s Will Smeed is applauded for his majestic knock on his PSL debut in the seventh edition of the Pakistan Super League versus Peshawar Zalmi.

The young English cricketer replaced the fellow cricketer James Vince for PSL 7 and has inspired the lookouts with the very first knock of his PSL career.

Smeed, 20-years old, who started his T20 career in 2020 for Somerset in T20 Blast, had 479 runs in 19 games, but now adds more to his stats.

He smashed 11 fours and four sixes to bring up a thrilling 62-ball 97 demolishing Zalmi’s batting line-up before getting caught to Pat Brown on Sameen Gul’s delivery.

It must be noted his inning is now the second-highest individual score for the Gladiators in PSL over the years.

His team put up 190 on the board losing four wickets, which is the highest PSL 2022 total yet since Karachi Kings could total 124 versus Multan Sultans in the PSL 2022 opener.

Twitter reacts to Will Smeed’s wonderful knock

The entire social media is full of praises for Will Smeed as he kicks off the PSL journey with style. Have a look at the reactions:

Atif Nawaz, the cricket commentator at the Test Match Special, writes,

“Those familiar with Will Smeed’s exploits in the T20 Blast for Somerset & in The Hundred for Birmingham Pheonix will not be at all surprised by the start he’s made for Quetta in the PSL. Brings up his 50 in 35 balls. A massively entertaining inning in progress.”

ESPN Cricinfo tweeted,

“Wow, what an entrance! Will Smeed smashes the second-highest individual score ever for the Quetta Gladiators on his PSL debut.”

Somerset could neither have fewer words of praise for the youngster.
