Pakistan are not enjoying a great stint in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, especially after two consecutive defeats against India and Zimbabwe, respectively. It almost diminished their chances to qualify for the semifinal, however, with some ifs and buts remaining.
The men in green, too reliant on other teams’ wins and losses in order to qualify for the semifinal, are also urged to win their remaining encounters. They managed to thrash away the Netherlands with a significant margin, but two more grounds to conquer are left since they will face Bangladesh and South Africa in their remaining games.
Can Pakistan still qualify for the semifinal after India lost to South Africa?
Besides winning the remaining matches, it was a must for Pakistan that India win all their games. However, the men in blue could not defend against South Africa during their Sunday encounter. Despite one of the scenarios no more valid for Pakistan, there still are hopes for them to qualify for World Cup 2022 semifinal.
Alongside winning against the Tigers and the Proteas, Pakistan will now want to see Zimbabwe lose all their remaining matches and hope for India to win against Bangladesh. In case the men in blue managed to triumph against Shakib Al Hasan and co, Pakistan’s next go-to chance would be seeing SA vs NED either getting washed out, or the Netherlands winning.
Qualification scenarios for Pakistan now:
– win all three matches
AND
– hope India lose to Bangladesh
OR
– hope South Africa lose to Netherlands or the match gets washed out
AND
– Zimbabwe don't win their next two matches#T20WorldCup
