Chief Selector Haroon Rasheed on Mohammad Amir’s Return

Chief Selector Haroon Rasheed on Mohammad Amir's Return

Chief Selector Haroon Rasheed recently spoke during a press conference in Lahore, addressing a variety of questions related to Pakistan’s cricket team selection process. During the conference, Rasheed emphasized that the selection door is open to any cricketer who performs well and is fit to play at the national level.

Responding to a question about Mohammad Amir, Rasheed refuted media reports that a member of the selection committee had contacted the left-arm pacer about a potential international comeback. Rasheed reiterated that the selection committee had announced that the door is open for everyone, and that the selection of players would depend solely on their performances.

Rasheed also stated that the dropping of a player does not necessarily mean that they will not be considered for future series. Using the example of Azam Khan, who did not perform well in the series against Afghanistan, Rasheed said that mistakes happen and that the door is open for his return if he works on his issues and improves. Rasheed also mentioned that many cricketers around the world have been dropped and then made a successful comeback, playing cricket for a long time.

While discussing potential new talent, Rasheed highlighted the current wicket-keeper batters, Mohammad Rizwan and Mohammad Haris, and also mentioned Azam Khan as being in the pipeline for selection. He also praised young cricketers like Amir Jamal, who could make it to the national team by showing good performance.

Rasheed also revealed the reason behind the inclusion of middle-order batsman Haris Sohail in the ODI squad against New Zealand. According to Rasheed, Pakistan has to play the 2023 World Cup in India, and Haris Sohail is an outstanding middle-order batter who can play spinners really well.

Chief Selector Haroon Rasheed’s message during the press conference was clear: the selection of players for the national cricket team would depend on their performance and fitness, and the selection door is open to all cricketers who meet these criteria. Additionally, Rasheed highlighted the potential of up-and-coming talent and praised the skills of established players like Haris Sohail.
