The heartwrenching journey of Chris Gayle

Opening his eyes in a small shanty house, he was attached to cricket since boyhood. Seeing a cricket academy near his house, he used to watch and learn cricket from the holes of the wall.

Years later when he became pro while learning, he practiced more n more to be an expert. He finally got a chance to represent his country. The powerful batter slammed 333 against Sri Lanka that makes him the only player to have a triple century in Test cricket.

A pile of records fell in his career. He is the most capped West Indies player in international cricket. Gayle also has double hundreds in ODIs and hundreds in T20Is. He is also the top-scorer in T20s with 175 runs that no player has seized yet.

Other than this, he is one of the twelve players with over 10,000 ODI runs. The player is being selected by a bulk of the t20 tournaments from across the globe. 333 is more than a number for him as he started his career majorly from there.

What’s the meaning of 333?

“It started here in this Shanty house. This is where I grew up. On the backstreets of Kingston, Jamaica, and opposite my house, there was this cricket club (pictures attached below). I would sneak between a gap in the wall; just for the chance to watch and learn how to play cricket,”

Five years later in Galle, Sri Lanka, I scored a record 333 runs. Many more records fell in my career. Fame and fortune followed, but there was a rule to my life, to live it with a smile on my face and to be grateful for what I had. 333 is more than just a number.
