Did PSL 2022 affect Jason Roy’s mental state?

Did PSL 2022 affect Jason Roy's mental state?

Jason Roy, Quetta Gladiators’ opening batter has revealed that the Pakistan Super League (PSL 2022) was the dark time which affected his mental condition. Talking to Sky Sports, he has stated that despite being in a good form, he could not enjoy his cricket.

Furthermore, Jason said he felt like he was in a weird place as things were not right with him. It was an ease for him to get back home and spend some quality time with his family which was the reason he pulled himself out of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2022).

Notably, Roy was picked by Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2022 mega auction but sidelined himself following his mental state. Discussing the cricket-packed schedule, he said coming home was good after a long quarantine period. His statements read:

“Things mentally weren’t right with me at the PSL. I was in a weird place because I was playing good cricket but I wasn’t enjoying myself, I wasn’t happy and it was just a dark time. It was just a good two months to come home and live a normal life for a bit after a tough couple of years. (There were) a lot of months away. Over 50 days of hotel quarantine the year before and then having a child in January and having to spend time away from him was just a bit too much,”

England’s batsman further commented that IPL would have refreshed his mind. He is glad to get back to game as the South African-English cricketer is currently playing Vitality Blast for Surrey. In seven matches, he has amassed 219 runs and is happy to enjoy his cricket being out of trauma.

“I missed the IPL to spend some time at home and it has refreshed my mind and body, and I recognised where I was at with a lot of things. So, it is nice to be here now and I’m chomping at the bit to put the badge back on. It’s the same for Surrey. I’ve loved every minute of that. It’s a nice feeling to be in love with the game again,”
