England’s Cancellation of Pakistan tour Made Zero Sense to Alex Hales

alex hales statement

The England batter Alex Hales has expressed despair over England’s cancellation of the Pakistan tour. The English side was scheduled to visit the country in late September days before the T20I World Cup but refused to do so following the hasty New Zealand departure.

Speaking to the media Hales said that Pakistan helped the England Cricket Board ECB massively by visiting England in the corona times. In 2020, Pakistan became the first country to tour another country after the virus had terminated all cricket-related activities. Later in 2021, the national side had paid another visit. He said, “Pakistan came to England during COVID, helped out the ECB massively, so for them to cancel that tour made absolutely zero sense to me whatsoever,”

The 33-year-old is currently in Pakistan representing Islamabad United. It’s not his first time as the batter has visited four to five times before for playing Pakistan Super League PSL and loves being in the country. He also hailed the hospitality of the people and the craze of cricket among fans.

“I have been here four or five times now and get looked after really well. Every time we come here, the people are very hospitable and the cricket is always really good. The fans here are crazy for it. So it’s a great place to come and play cricket.”

The reason cited by the ECB for calling off the tour was stated as ‘concerns about travelling to the region as well as protecting the mental and physical well-being of its players and staff. The current season of PSL has brushed away all such concerns since the tournament saw a record number of English players participating in the league.

However, the decision to abandon the excursion was not taken well by the current Prime Minister of England Boris Johnson, who reprimanded the board for stating such a thing. English will now tour in September 2022 and will play additional matches as well.
