How many foreign cricketers have registered for PJL 1?

Ramiz Raja’s dream project to launch a competitive cricket tournament for young cricketers is going to be a reality. The inaugural edition of the Pakistan Junior League (PJL 1) is all set to take place from October 6th to 21 at Gadaffi Stadium, Lahore. PJL is a PSL-like T20 tournament for U-19 teams presenting different cities in Pakistan. It was soft-launched on 14th April 2022 by the PCB chairman.

Being in its first edition, PJL’s latest news released an unexpected development. It has been reported that over 140 foreign players have shown interest in taking part in PJL 1. The PCB has received applications for registration from all over the world. The nominations are from big Test-playing nations, including Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, Ireland, Sri Lanka, the West Indies, and Zimbabwe.

Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Nepal, Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Scotland, and the UAE have also sent nominations to PCB for their players’ participation in PJL 1. South Africa and New Zealand stay back as their eligible players’ exams schedule clashes with PJL 1.

Thanking the boards who have submitted their nominations for PJL 1, the PCB media director Nadeem Khan said,

“We want to thank the cricket boards that have backed this unique concept that will potentially redefine the junior cricket landscape not only in Pakistan but around the world.

The Pakistan Cricket Board is fully focussed on delivering a quality event that will not only provide a platform to teenage stars but will also inspire millions of children as well as aspiring cricketers in their early to mid-teens.

This event is a potential game changer for youth cricket and the strong nominations list received by the PCB is an indication of the interest of the cricketing world in the PJL,”

Notably, the board received over 2500 videos for entry. Earlier, the board described the method to register for PJL 1, according to which an interested candidate was supposed to upload his skill video (batting, bowling, fielding) under the league’s official hashtags.

The videos are still being assessed by PCB officials. Once the process is done, the players will be shortlisted for PJL 1 draft. Discussing the terms and conditions to be part of PJL, the player must be born on September 1st, 2003, or before, but not after that.
