psl 8 5

Four players in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) have been fined by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for breaching code of conduct. Islamabad United’s captain Shadab Khan and pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi, along with Multan Sultans’ batters Tim David and Shan Masood were all found guilty of violating the code of conduct during their respective matches.

Farooqi was fined 10% of his match fee for using abusive language after dismissing a batter during Islamabad’s match against Lahore Qalandars in the 26th fixture of the PSL 8. The incident occurred in the 19th over of Lahore Qalandars’ batting, and Farooqi pleaded guilty to the charge.

Similarly, Shadab Khan, Shan Masood, and Tim David were also fined 10% of their match fees for breaching a Level 1 offence of the PSL Code of Conduct in separate incidents during their side’s match in the PSL 8. All three players were found to have violated Article 2.8 of the PSL Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to showing dissent at an Umpire’s decision during a match.

Shadab expressed his disappointment at a decision made by the on-field umpire in the fourth ball of the 20th over of Multan Sultans’ batting, while Shan Masood expressed his dissatisfaction after the umpire didn’t signal it one for the over for a short-pitched ball in the penultimate ball of the 14th over of Multan Sultans’ batting. Tim David, on the other hand, expressed his displeasure over the leg-umpire’s decision not to call a short-pitched ball a wide delivery on the second ball of the 18th over of Multan Sultans’ batting.

Shadab and Shan pleaded guilty to the offences and accepted the sanctions proposed by match referee Roshan Mahanama. As such, there was no need for a formal hearing. However, David challenged the decision, and after a formal hearing, the match referee upheld his decision. The charges were levelled by on-field umpires Faisal Afridi and Rashid Riaz.
