After a considerable hiatus, Pakistan’s iconic opening duo from the 1992 World Cup, Ramiz Raja and Aamer Sohail, are set to join forces once again.
Both Ramiz and Aamer have been enlisted by the broadcasters as commentators for the forthcoming Test series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Opening duo of Raja and Sohail to be in action
Excitedly announcing his comeback to the world of cricket commentary, Ramiz took to Twitter to share the news. On July 6, he wrote, “‘Camera’, ‘Sound’, and ‘Action!’ Back in the comm box for the Pak vs. SL series.”
This assignment marks Ramiz’s first commentary stint since 2021 when he assumed the role of Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Ramiz held the position until December 2022 when Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who serves as the PCB’s patron, appointed a Management Committee led by former board chairman Najam Sethi.
Following his removal as PCB chairman, Ramiz took a break from the limelight and withdrew from active involvement. However, he has now decided to return to his beloved realm of commentary, a profession he has embraced since retiring from international cricket.
Although Ramiz and Aamer have frequently collaborated in the commentary box in the past, their joint appearances have been scarce in recent times.
Aamer, who most recently provided commentary for the Pakistan vs. Afghanistan T20 series in March this year, remains dedicated to his role as a cricket commentator and expert. Despite reports linking him to a prominent position in the newly appointed Management Committee under former PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf, Aamer dismissed such speculation and expressed his desire to continue his contributions in the commentary domain.
As Ramiz and Aamer prepare to rekindle their on-air chemistry, cricket enthusiasts eagerly anticipate their insightful and dynamic commentary during the upcoming Test series. The return of this esteemed duo promises to add a nostalgic touch to the broadcasting experience for fans across the globe.
