Haroon Rashid Takes on Dual Role in Pakistan Cricket

In a recent development within the Pakistan cricket set-up, Haroon Rashid, the chief selector of the Pakistan men’s team, has been entrusted with an additional responsibility as the head of domestic cricket. This decision comes after Nadeem Khan was removed from his post following the appointment of Najam Sethi-led management committee.

Nadeem Khan, the older brother of former Pakistani wicketkeeper Moin Khan, had previously served as the Domestic Director and the Director of the National Cricket Academy (formerly known as the PCB High-Performance Centre). During his tenure, which began during the chairmanship of Ehsan Mani, Nadeem played a crucial role in appointing domestic coaches across the country and making significant decisions when the domestic system underwent changes under the leadership of former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

However, Nadeem’s position became uncertain when he was transferred to the women’s wing a few weeks ago, accompanied by a reduction in salary. Subsequently, he was dismissed from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) earlier this month, leading to the need for a replacement.

Haroon Rashid, a former Test cricketer with 23 Test matches and 12 ODIs under his belt, was initially appointed as the chief selector after Shahid Afridi declined to continue in the role following a three-match home ODI series against New Zealand in January of this year. With his new responsibilities, Haroon will now be fulfilling three different roles within the cricket structure of Pakistan.

It is worth noting that Haroon had also resigned as a management committee member upon assuming the chief selector’s position. During the home ODI series against New Zealand, Afridi was temporarily appointed as the interim chief selector, and Haroon served alongside him on the selection committee, which also included Abdur Razzaq and Rao Iftikhar Anjum.

With Haroon Rashid now assuming the position of chief selector for the Pakistan men’s team as well as heading domestic cricket, it remains to be seen how he will handle the multiple responsibilities and contribute to the development and success of Pakistani cricket at both the national and grassroots levels.
