Harshal Patel tells how he was cheated in 2018

Harshal Patel, one of the valuable exponents of the slow ball, has opened up about an incident when he was cheated back in 2018. Talking in an interview, the bowler has revealed that three to four people from different IPL franchises promised to feature him in IPL 2018 auction, but did not fulfil their promise.

Speaking on Gaurav Kapur’s show Breakfast with Champions on YouTube, Patel said he felt cheated on as not one, but all of them lied to him. The right-arm bowler has mentioned the happening as the turning point saying it was when he decided not to have a free entry, but to enlist in the auction on behalf of his abilities.

They betrayed me – Harshal Patel on fake promises of four franchises

“The ironic thing was that there were three-four people from different franchises who said we’d gonna bid for you but kisi ne nahi kiya [no one did]. At that time, it felt like a betrayal, yeh toh jhooth bole hain, dhokha hua hai mere saath [they lied to me, I felt cheated],”

That is a decision I made after the 2018 auction that I want to be a valuable player. When the team is named, I should be the automatic entry, that we need to feature his name. That drove all my decisions, my decision to take more risks on the field and my decision to be more expressive on the field,”

Patel, who has been donning the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) jersey since 2012, was bought by Delhi Capitals (DC) in 2018. However, ahead of the 14th season of the cash-rich league, Patel once again was traded to Virat Kohli’s RCB, now led by Faf Du Plessis.
