India secured a spot in the ICC World Cup 2023 final by defeating New Zealand in the semi-final. Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer’s centuries, along with Mohammed Shami’s seven-wicket haul, were pivotal in India’s triumph.

Chasing a challenging target of 398 runs, New Zealand faced early setbacks, losing openers Conway and Ravindra. However, Daryl Mitchell and Kane Williamson’s partnership kept them in the game. Despite Shami dismissing Williamson, New Zealand continued the fight. Shami further dented their chase by removing Latham, and Bumrah broke the Phillips-Mitchell partnership. Shami’s brilliance continued as he claimed key wickets, eventually restricting New Zealand to 327.

Daryl Mitchell’s valiant 134, supported by Phillips, couldn’t steer New Zealand to victory. Shami’s exceptional 7/57 led India’s bowling attack, with contributions from Yadav, Bumrah, and Siraj.

India’s batting showcased dominance, with Rohit Sharma providing an explosive start. Virat Kohli, in a record-breaking partnership with Shubman Gill, surpassed Tendulkar’s 2003 World Cup run record and achieved the first-ever 50 ODI centuries. Kohli’s historic 50th century marked a significant milestone in his illustrious career. Shreyas Iyer’s explosive century further powered India to an imposing total of 397.

The match witnessed Kohli breaking multiple records, not only surpassing Tendulkar’s ODI centuries but also accumulating 700 runs in a single World Cup edition, outdoing Tendulkar’s 2003 record. Kohli’s remarkable innings ended at 117, while Iyer’s aggressive 105 propelled India to a commanding position.

Tim Southee, despite taking three wickets, endured a tough outing, conceding 100 runs. Trent Boult secured one wicket for 86 runs.

Virat Kohli’s innings underscored his legacy, nearing Tendulkar’s record of 100 international centuries. The partnership with Iyer showcased India’s batting prowess, securing a formidable total. Shami’s stellar performance with the ball exemplified India’s dominance.

India’s victory sets the stage for an exciting ICC World Cup 2023 final, with Kohli’s leadership and the team’s collective brilliance aiming for championship glory.
