The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the 11-player ICC Women’s T20I Team of the Year 2022 on Monday. Four Indian cricketers made the cut, including Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma, Richa Ghosh, and Renuka Singh. Renuka stood out as a standout bowler for her team, claiming 22 T20I wickets at an average of 23.95 and an economy rate of 6.50. She was also one of the nominees for the prestigious ICC Women’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year award.
Renuka proved to be a formidable opponent for Australia, taking 8 wickets in 7 T20I meetings across the year. She also had a strong showing in the Commonwealth Games and Asia Cup, claiming 17 wickets in 11 matches with an economy of just 5.21. Her best performance came against Australia, when she produced a spell of 4/18 that included 16 dot balls.
Richa Ghosh was another standout player for India in the T20I format. In 18 matches, the wicketkeeper-batter accumulated 259 runs, hitting 13 sixes and showing great skill from lower down the order. Her best performance came at Brabourne against Australia when she hit an unbeaten 40 in just 19 balls to lift India to a good total.
Deepti Sharma was another key player for India in the T20I format. The off-spinner took 29 wickets in the year, the joint-third-highest by any bowler in women’s T20Is. She averaged 18.55 with the ball, bowled at an economy rate of just over six, and also contributed well with the bat. She made 370 runs for the year with the bat in T20Is, averaging 37 and striking at a rate of 136.02. Her 13 wickets in the Women’s Asia Cup in Bangladesh earned her the Player of the Tournament.
Smriti Mandhana, India’s batting superstar, had a great year with the bat. She made 594 runs at an average of 33.00 and a strike-rate of 133.48. She hit five half-centuries in 21 innings during the year, including one in the final of the Women’s Asia Cup in October against Sri Lanka. She finished as the fourth-highest run-scorer in the year in women’s T20Is.
