
The Indian Premier League franchise Mumbai Indians’ team New York has announced its participation in the upcoming inaugural edition of Major Cricket League (MLC) in the USA, which will take place in July 2023. The team has revealed its draft picks, including Pakistani cricketers Hammad Azam and Ehsan Adil, who have reportedly shifted to the USA for pursuing their cricket careers. Hammad and Ehsan have represented Pakistan in ODIs, T20Is, Tests, and the ICC World Cup 2015.
The MLC will be a franchise-based cricket tournament that will be played at Grand Prairie Stadium in Grand Prairie, Texas. The tournament will have six franchises, and Mumbai Indians have bought the New York franchise. Shahrukh Khan’s Kolkata Knight Riders have Los Angeles Knight Riders in MLC, and the other franchises include Washington Freedom, San Francisco Unicorns, Seattle Orcas, and Texas team (Name not yet decided).
The MLC will be the first-of-its-kind cricket tournament in America and will pave the way for shaping the sport’s future in the country. With the USA’s increasing investment in cricket, this tournament is an excellent opportunity to promote the sport and attract a wider audience.
Sami Aslam, another Pakistani cricketer who moved to the USA in search of a cricket career, has been picked up by Texas team.
