India's ODI and Test squads for West Indies tour

In a much-anticipated announcement, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revealed the squads for the upcoming tour of West Indies, encompassing a two-match Test series and a thrilling three-match ODI series. The selection decisions made on Friday have brought some surprising changes to the Indian cricket setup.

After a heartbreaking loss in the World Test Championship final against Australia, the Indian team has opted to exclude veteran batter Cheteshwar Pujara from the squad. Stepping into the limelight are two promising uncapped batters, Yashaswi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad, whose remarkable performances while opening for Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings in the IPL earned them well-deserved selection nods.

Joining the pace bowling ranks are Mukesh Kumar and Navdeep Saini, as Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav take a backseat for this tour. Meanwhile, Ajinkya Rahane has been appointed as the vice-captain of the squad, supporting the continued captaincy of Rohit Sharma.

However, it’s unfortunate that pacer Jasprit Bumrah remains sidelined due to a lingering back injury, leaving fans eagerly anticipating his return to action.

The ODI squad comprises several regular players, including the talented Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has secured his place in the white-ball format as well. Additionally, the inclusion of Sanju Samson marks a much-awaited comeback, while injuries keep KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant out of contention.

In the pace department, Mukesh Kumar earns his place in the limited-overs squad, accompanied by the likes of Umran Malik, Jaydev Unadkat, and Mohammed Siraj, who have all been recognized for their remarkable skills.

The ODI squad boasts an impressive spin arsenal, featuring Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel. Rohit Sharma will lead the team, with the dynamic Hardik Pandya assuming the role of vice-captain.

The action-packed Test series will kick off on July 12 in Dominica, culminating in a thrilling finale on July 24 in Trinidad. Subsequently, the enthralling three-match ODI series will take place from July 27 to August 1.

While the T20I squad is yet to be announced, fans eagerly anticipate further exciting revelations in the days to come.
