IPL 2022: Hard times for the title-defenders

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK), so far, are not seeing things in their favour in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2022). They lost the league opener versus Shreyas Iyer’s Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and failed to manage the subsequent match against newly induced Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to the panel.

MS Dhoni, the skipper leading the yellow army from the extravaganza’s inception in 2008, closed his captaincy chapter entirely, hence, the CSK roles were assigned to Ravindra Jadeja ahead of the IPL. Yet, the title defenders are looking for the tips and tricks to win their first game under the all-rounder.

In the recent CSK vs LSG match, although Jadeja and co compiled 210 in the first innings on the loss of seven scalps, their bowlers failed to defend since LSG lined-up batters, four down, won their first game of the season sparing three balls, by six wickets. It must be noted the newly induced team lost its opening encounter versus Gujarat Titans – another new IPL team.

Robin Uthappa’s 50 from 27 balls rocked in crossing 200+ runs. Also, Shivam Dube’s contributions with 49 runs on 30 deliveries had a decent role. Moeen Ali’s 35 from 22 had no less credit either.

From LSG, Avesh Khan, Andrew Tye, and Ravi Bishnoi managed two wickets apiece conceding 38, 40, and 24 runs sequentially delivering all their overs. Stepping onto the field to chase, their bowlers made decent contributions too.

Putting a solid start at the top, KL Rahul’s 40 from 26 balls and Quinton De Kock’s 61 runs from 45 balls tackled half of the things for them. The knocks were followed by Evin Lewis swashbuckling 55* from just 23 deliveries.

The game ended with a single as the commentators chanted ‘Mukesh Chaudhry to Ayush Badoni, That’s it, What an incredible chase this has been. Mukesh lands on a length, around off. Ayush goes deep in his crease and hits it to deep mid-wicket. The ball goes in the air and falls away from Jadeja. Lucknow open their account in Indian T20 league. They win by six wickets.’
