IPL opportunity knocks Rehan Ahmed's gate

England’s bowling all-rounder Rehan Ahmed has surprised the lookouts with his performances on his test debut during the concluding match of the three-match series against Pakistan. He plucked seven wickets, out of which two came up in the first inning, whereas he struck with the rest five in Pakistan’s second inning.

His spell during the hosts’ final inning made him register a record, as Rehan now is the youngest-ever test debutant to pick a five-wicket haul. He surpassed the prior record of Australia’s Pat Cummins, as the Kangaroos’ skipper did so while he was 18 years and 193 days. In contrast, Rehan achieved this at the age of 18 years and 126 days old.

Since everyone now eyes on the leg-break bowler for his tactics, there is a possibility that he bags a big deal in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Since England’s head coach Brendon McCullum also oversaw the same duties for IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Rider (KKR), there is a likelihood that the men in purple will auction him.

According to Crictracker,

Rehan will now go under the hammer at the upcoming IPL 2023 mini-auction on December 23 in Kochi at a base price of INR 40 lakh.

Backing Rehan to get experience from the world’s cash-richest league, McCullum said,

“It would be great. It would be awesome if he did. I’ve been involved with the IPL a couple of times so sometimes it works out for guys, and sometimes it doesn’t. Why not? Why not get an opportunity to go and play under different coaches and different captains and rub shoulders with different players and pick up those experiences?

What 18-year-old kid anywhere else in world cricket is going to get those chances? I think we should encourage it,”
