Is Fakhar Zaman ruled out of T20 World Cup 2022?

Pakistan’s left-handed opening batter, Fakhar Zaman, has been ruled out of the all-important clash versus India as the men in green kick start their T20 World Cup 2022 versus the arch-rivals on October 23rd.

Fakhar is yet nursing the knee injury he suffered during Asia Cup 2022. He was sent to London for recovery and rehabilitation process alongside Shaheen Shah Afridi, who also suffered a knee injury during Galle Test in July.

The Pakistan Cricket Board earlier revealed that Zaman landed on his left knee while fielding in the final of the Asian battle against Sri Lanka.

Although Shaheen is fully fit to play, the left-handed batter will miss playing against his favourite rivals. The big blow was revealed by skipper Babar Azam, who held a press conference ahead of the Pak vs Ind clash.

“Fakhar Zaman is not fully fit, which is why he won’t be available for our first match,”

Whether or not he will be available for selection for further matches is not yet clarified by the official sources. In his place, Pakistan are likely to opt for all-set Shan Masood one down. It means Babar Azam x Mohammad Rizwan are ready and steady to open the games until Zaman is in action again.

It must be noted that Masood, another batter in the list of left-handed batters, was hit on the head by Mohammad Nawaz’s shot during the practice session at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). He was immediately taken to hospital but is now doing totally fine to play in the further games.

Azam revealed,

“Fakhar Zaman is not fully fit which is why he won’t be available for our first match,”
