Pakistani pacer Naseem Shah has already set his sights on the upcoming ICC World Cup in October, while also being mindful of managing his workload, as advised by his physios. Currently representing Leicestershire Foxes in the T20 Blast, Shah has showcased impressive accuracy, picking up three wickets in four matches while conceding only 112 runs in total, maintaining an economy rate of just 7.46 runs per over.
Reflecting on his stint with Leicestershire Foxes, Shah expressed his delight, saying,
“This short stint with Leicestershire Foxes was amazing. Last year, I played quite a lot of cricket in all formats and also in county. I was not permitted by my physio to play again for a full season to manage my workload. I got this opportunity to play just a few games, which was a good experience and a little change of weather too. And I’m happy with my performance.”
Shah is determined to make the most of the upcoming cricket fixtures, including the Test series in Sri Lanka. He plans to return to Pakistan to join the special cricket camp set up by the Pakistan Cricket Board at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore, stating,
I am fully committed to directing my attention towards the upcoming cricket opportunities that come my way, including the highly anticipated Test series in Sri Lanka. As part of my preparation, I will soon return to Pakistan and actively participate in the specialized cricket camp organized by the Pakistan Cricket Board at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore. With rigorous training and preparation, I hope that our team will be thoroughly equipped and ready to excel when the World Cup arrives.
Acknowledging the fierce competition among Pakistani fast bowlers, Shah acknowledged,
The presence of intense yet constructive competition within Pakistan’s fast-bowling department is a positive factor for our cricketing prospects. With an abundance of talented fast bowlers, the increasing number of competitors raises the bar, demanding greater effort and dedication.
While I personally don’t view my colleagues as rivals, my focus remains on continually improving myself and putting in maximum effort. However, when it comes to partnerships on the field, I genuinely relish the opportunity to bowl alongside any of my teammates. Each partnership offers valuable lessons and enjoyment, making it a pleasure to collaborate with all of them.
Naseem Shah opens up on marriage plans
Responding to recent engagement rumors, Shah dismissed them as false and expressed his frustration with the sudden interest in players’ personal lives, saying,
“I want to clarify that all the rumors surrounding my engagement are completely false as there is no truth to them. I find it perplexing why there is such a heightened interest in my personal life, specifically my engagement or marriage. Instead of scrutinizing players’ relationships, I believe the focus should be on our performance on the cricket field. I invite everyone to simply watch us play cricket and derive enjoyment from that. The decision to get married is deeply personal and will occur when the time is right, in accordance with destiny.”
