Is Shaheen Shah Afridi going to get a big deal?

Desert Vipers, a prominent team in the International League (ILT20) franchise, has dropped a hint suggesting the signing of Pakistani fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi for the upcoming second season of the lucrative tournament.

The franchise discreetly unveiled their intentions on X platform, offering fans intriguing clues about their latest acquisition.

In a strategic move, the shared image and accompanying post provided a clear indication that Shaheen Shah Afridi is poised to join the ranks of the Vipers for the forthcoming edition of ILT20.

The preceding season witnessed the conspicuous absence of Pakistani players in the ILT20, an event financially supported by Indian companies. Former PCB chairman Ramiz Raja’s stance refrained from endorsing Pakistani players’ participation in ILT20. Instead, he sought compensation from the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) in exchange for releasing players.

Pakistani cricket stars, including the likes of Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Mohammad Rizwan, were presented with an enticing offer of a staggering USD 900,000 alongside a three-year captaincy contract in the lead-up to the inaugural ILT20.

The league also had its sights set on Fakhar Zaman and Mohammad Hasnain, both in high demand. Moreover, wicketkeeper-batsman Azam Khan’s selection by the Vipers created a buzz; however, the No-Objection Certificate (NOC) aspect posed a hindrance.

In the debut season of ILT20, the tournament featured formidable teams including Dubai Capitals, Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, MI Emirates, Sharjah Warriors, Gulf Giants, and the Vipers. In a riveting culmination, the Gulf Giants, led by Colin Munro, triumphed over the Vipers in the final, hoisting the trophy on February 12 earlier this year.
