One of the best fast bowlers ever to play the game of cricket, Wasim Akram turns 56-year old today (3rd June) and the cricket world is falling short of praises to wish him a very happy birthday.
The King of Swing, Wasim has numerous splendid records to his name, out of which, many are not broken yet. Pakistan’s finest bowler of his time is yet the country’s highest wicket-taker in international cricket. With 916 scalps to his name, he has no one close to his feat as his counterpart Waqar Younis, another great bowler of that time, closed his career on 789 international wickets, being the second-highest wicket-taker from Pakistan.
The social media is loaded with Happy Birthday wishes for Wasim, who represented the men in green in 460 matches. Being a thrilling bowler, he had a decent grip on the bat as his highest score in Test cricket came versus Zimbabwe. Smashing 257 not out, he still ranks at the top of the list of eighth positioned batters to score the most runs in Test innings.
Not only this but Akram, the winner mate of the ICC ODI World Cup 1992, once slammed 12 sixes in a Test inning, the most by any player. He is also the only bowler to clutch most wickets at a single venue. The King of Swing’s 122 wicket-taking deliveries were bowled at Sharjah Cricket Stadium in just 72 matches.
Let’s have a look at what Twitter has to say about Wasim Akram on his 56th Birthday
The cricket analyst Joy Bhattacharjya writes,
10 years ago, in the KKR nets, @wasimakramlive decided to have a little bowl in the nets, & a member of the coaching staff actually him to stay away from a particular net. Apparently that particular batsman, a current international star, was extremely low on confidence pic.twitter.com/5HnQiOG5VM
