Kohli shares most memorable night of his life

World Cup 2022: The high-voltage clash between India and Pakistan that took place on Sunday was even greater than any hyped Netflix series. In a nailbiting clash, India pulled off a miraculous win over Pakistan with the courtesy of Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya. Chasing 160 looked critical for India, but a 113-run partnership from Pandya and Kohli at the fifth wicket helped them reach the closing point.

Although Pandya departed after building a solid partnership, Kohli stayed firm till the end and smashed sixes in much-needed situations to cheer in happiness. The game built controversies following the no-ball and cleaned bowled on a free-hit on Mohammad Nawaz’s delivery to Kohli, but in the end, India barely managed to win with zero balls left.

After contributing with a crucial knock of 82 runs from 53 balls, the right-handed batter opened up, saying that it was the best knock of his life. Pulling out India from a challenging situation to finally register the triumph, the match-winner has also termed Sunday night as the most memorable night of his life. He has rated this knock versus Pakistan greater than all his life innings.

In a video shared by the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI), both Kohli and Pandya shared their experience of batting in a pressure situation, that too against the arch-rivals Pakistan. He stated,

“It was one of the most memorable nights of my life. I have played for 15 years and have had emotions like this. The last time I experienced something like this was against Australia in Mohali. I was a bit emotional then and right now, maybe because that was more like a semi-final or quarter-final for us, but here it is, the first game.

As happy as we are and as emotional as we are, the adrenaline is high, and it will take a bit of time to sink in, but we understand as professionals that it is just the first game.”

The former Indian captain further said that the match was crucial not only because it was against Pakistan but because they got two points, which could push them up in the tournament Asia Cup 2022.

“Why this is so special because of the situation that we were in, to be able to get the first two points and to get the tournament kick-off for us, is very crucial. Because in 20-20 cricket, especially the World Cup, we have seen in the Asia Cup that if you fall behind once, then it is very difficult to catch up so starting right is very important.

And thus this has given us tremendous belief, and we all just have a smile on our faces, and we will just enjoy ourselves in this whole World Cup,”
