KPK get one inch close to defend their NT20 title

As the National T20 Cup 2021 reaches its termination stages, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has become the first team to qualify for the event’s final. The team, which was led by Mohammad Rizwan, has been now progressing under Iftikhar Ahmed after Rizwan had to leave the NT20 crew to depart for national duties.

Now, the men in black-grey jerseys anticipate their arch-rival to compete with in the final showdown scheduled for 13th October at Gadaffi Stadium Lahore. KPK, who won the NT20 2020, will be striving to defend their title versus Central Punjab

Central Punjab, the second finalist to compete with KPK?

At the time of writing, Sarfaraz Ahmed’s Sindh just got out of the contest as Babar Azam’s Central Punjab compete to defeat them in the second semi-final to battle with the awaited KPK in the final.

It is pertinent to mention that just like Rizwan, Sarfaraz and Babar departed for due soon T20 World Cup. The SIN and CEP captainships were assigned to Shan Masood and Wahab Riaz respectively.

Sindh, under Masood, could add a substandard yet defendable target of 142 runs. CEP totalled the spot in 17.5 overs with Mir Hamza slamming a four to tap up sparing seven men.

KPK’s big feat came versus Northern as they met the Umar Amin-led side in the first semi-final of the NT20 2021. Notably, Northern were earlier led by the Pakistan team’s vice-captain, Shadab Khan, who had to join men in green’s T20 World Cup 2021 squad with the event due soon. Later, the duties were assigned to Amin.

Northern bowlers got crashed during KPK’s inning delivering mediocre dead overs. If it was not Iftikhar, the fate would have been of Northern. But the newly elected captain smashed thrilling 45 off 17 balls. Khalid Usman, in the end, contributed with 15 off 11, while, Sahibzada Farhan and Kamran Ghulam added 53 off 39, 35 off 29 sequentially.

The decent-looking target of 157 thumbed up in 19.1 alongside sparing five men for the KPK to clinch the first finalist spot. Watch the highlights:
