Lahore Qalandars name captain for PSL 7

Lahore Qalandars, one of the six franchises of the HBL Pakistan Super League, has named Shaheen Shah Afridi as the captain for PSL 7 set to kick-start from 27th January.

The pacer has replaced Sohail Akhtar who led Qalandars during PSL 5 and PSL 6. Sohail’s journey during the fifth season of the marquee event was appreciative as the team reached the final for the first time in PSL history, however, the regular collapse of the Qalandars was witnessed in the next season.

Notably, Shaheen, the key bowler of the grey-green men acted as a deputy to Akhtar in the last season. He made his debut for the PSL with Qalandars in 2018 and since then, he has been an integral part of the side.

He is the leading wicket-taker of his team with 50 wickets in 37 games.

Apart from the league, he has ended the calendar year as the most valuable bowler in international cricket with 78 wickets across all three formats.

Notably, Aaqib Javed, the head coach of the team earlier denied appointing a new captain for the team. After the murmurs regarding Shaheen’s appointment as the skipper revolved, the coach termed them as rumors.

On the other hand, when Shaheen heard of these rumors, he was quite happy and looked forward to adhering to the dream. It feels like Shaheen Shah Afridi’s dreams have come true. The quick man added,

“I am very excited to be named as captain of Lahore Qalandars this year. We have a very balanced side with all the bases covered, we will try our best to bring the trophy home for Lahore Qalandars’ fans this year,”

It is pertinent to mention that the Shaheen-led team will progress their PSL journey versus Multan Sultans on 29th January at the National Stadium Karachi.
