Massive update on Asia Cup 2022

The talks regarding hosting Asia Cup 2022 continue amidst Sri Lanka’s uncertainties about embracing the event following its political and economic crisis. Daily protests further damaging the country’s circumstances have been a worrying sign, diminishing its chances of hosting the Asia Cup.

According to recent developments, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has been reviewing Sri Lanka’s circumstances to give a green signal for hosting Asia Cup. If the reports heard are to be true, the event might be staged in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), with SLC being the host.

Moreover, the current reports are narrating that SLC has denied hosting Asia Cup 2022 amidst the country’s poor condition. Reportedly, the SLC has stated its inability to host the participants for the event scheduled from 27th August to 11th September.

As per publication in ‘The Nation’,

“As per Sri Lankan media, the SLC informed the ACC about its decision, maintaining that it is ‘not in a position’ to organize the Asia Cup cricket tournament in the country due to the current political and economic situation of the country,”

A decision to hold the event in the United Arab Emirates hasn’t been finalised yet. The venue could, however, be any Asian country, including India. Sri Lanka will reportedly consult the UAE Cricket Board, requesting to provide a venue where it can host the event”.

Moreover, for the same reason, Sri Lanka’s Lanka Premier League has been postponed, which was due to kick start on August 21st.
