Will MS Dhoni retire on a high? Matthew Hayden shares his predictions

Hayden, who played under Dhoni’s captaincy during his early years of IPL, believes that Dhoni will want to retire on a high note in front of a packed crowd in Chennai. He also predicts that Dhoni’s legacy will be celebrated extravagantly in the upcoming season.

Hayden credits Dhoni for revitalizing and revamping the CSK side over the years. He also notes that CSK has a unique and special way of doing things, as evidenced by their unexpected victory in the IPL after their two-year hiatus.

In his 15-year-long career in the IPL, Dhoni has led CSK to four title victories, making them the second most successful franchise in the tournament. Until 2022, CSK was the only franchise to have had a single captain since the inception of the IPL in 2008.

Hayden believes that CSK will be a difficult team to beat at home in the upcoming season, thanks to their stellar record at Chepauk. The venue has become a fortress for the team, and with Dhoni as captain for what may be the last time, Hayden expects the crowd to turn up in droves to bid farewell to the legendary skipper.

CSK’s opening game of the IPL season 16 is set to take place on March 31st against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
