Mohsin Naqvi opens up after meeting players at Kakul Camp

The chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Mr Mohsin Naqvi met the players at Kakul Camp on Monday. The 29 players along with coaches are training rigorously at Army School of Physical Training ahead of the five-match T20I series against New Zealand at home.

Naqvi, who was recently appointed as the board’s chairman, has revealed a few shocking developments in a short time. Cricketers like Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim took their retirements back and are part of the Kakul Camp. Moreover, Babar Azam is once again back at the helm as the board named him white-ball skipper replacing Shaheen Shah Afridi in T20Is.

Reportedly, the sudden decision did not go well with Shaheen who found it ‘disrespectful’ to sack him without any ‘justification’ and ‘consideration’. The reports revealed that he requested an urgent meeting with the board to discuss the fake statements attributed to him by the PCB on Babar’s appointment as the captain.

Naqvi headed to meet the players at Kakul Camp, especially Shaheen. However, the press release quotes no such statements regarding the captaincy saga. It states that the chairman met the people to appreciate their dedication toward national commitment.

He also held a meeting with the selection committee to discuss the team selection ahead of the Pak vs NZ T20I series, Ireland and England tours, and the T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and the West Indies, respectively.

His statements read:

“I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Pakistan Army for their support to our cricketers. Their collaboration will not only enhance the fitness levels of our players but will also make them more disciplined in future.

“This camp will surely put the players in good stead before undertaking a challenging journey leading to a global tournament in the USA and West Indies.

“The PCB remains dedicated to providing comprehensive support to its players, equipping them with the necessary tools and resources to excel at the international level.”
