Bangladesh’s Mustafizur Rehman has either chose to play for his beloved country rather than featuring in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

As BCB has scheduled their two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, the IPL management before the auction speculated that no Bangladeshi cricketer will be available amidst their national duties.

Notably, these two matches are to take place in April and are a part of the ICC Test Championship. The Tests will be clashing in between IPL’s schedule that disallows Bangladeshis to be the cash-rich league’s part.

“If I am not selected, I will take BCB’s advice. I spoke to the BCB president, who has left the decision to me. If they let me play the IPL I will, otherwise I am choosing to play for the country.”

“There’s no pressure to play in the IPL or for Bangladesh,” Rahman said. “It is not new for me. I have forgone IPL in the past to play for the country. I am thinking along similar lines this time too.”

However, Shakib Al Hasan has rather selected to play for IPL.  He ought to be a participant in Ban vs SL upcoming encounter but instead, he has preferred to play for the Indian Premier League (IPL).

He could not take part in IPL 2020 due to a year ban but as of now, he is ready to compensate IPL 2021 with the missed past season.

It is worthy to mention that the BCB is not happy over Sakib’s act and plans to launch a rule in the coming days. As per the regulations, a player will have to inform the BCB about their priority. If they will to take part in any cricket tournament than playing for the country, they must inform the board about their unavailability.

We will enter into new contact with the players (for 2021). It will be mentioned clearly who wants to play which format. They have to inform us. If they have any other engagements, they have to be clear about their availability. It is very open. Previously, it depended on individuals but now we are confirming it in writing so that nobody can say that they haven’t been allowed or we kept them forcefully.”
