Nepal cricket team, under the guidance of head coach Monty Desai, is gearing up for a historic Asia Cup 2023 appearance, sharing a group with cricket giants Pakistan and India. Desai, originally from India, has already achieved remarkable success, securing Nepal’s maiden qualification for both the Asia Cup and the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 Qualifiers.

Desai is keen on maximizing this golden opportunity for his team as they prepare for the highly anticipated Asia Cup. “Nepal qualified for the Asia Cup, it is a historic achievement,” noted Desai, praising the Pakistan Cricket Board’s efforts in providing excellent training facilities in Karachi.

Expressing his ambition for the upcoming tournament, Desai emphasized the learning experience for his players in facing formidable opponents like Pakistan and India. He acknowledged the challenge, stating, “I cannot say that we are going to win. Our players have only seen these top cricketers on television.” He also anticipated the arrival of Sandeep Lamichhane on August 28 to further strengthen the team.

Desai, an admirer of legendary cricketer Waqar Younis, expressed his desire for prominent figures from Pakistan to visit the Nepal team’s camp and share their invaluable insights with the players.

The Nepal cricket team arrived in Karachi on August 23, where they are currently training at the National Bank Stadium and participating in practice matches. Their journey will continue as they head to Multan on August 27.

Nepal, considered underdogs in the tournament, is brimming with excitement as they anticipate their first-ever appearance in the Asia Cup. Placed in Group A alongside cricket powerhouses Pakistan and India, Nepal will kick off their campaign against Pakistan on August 30 in Multan, followed by a clash with India on September 4 in Sri Lanka.
