No league other than IPL had runaway success, South Africa T20 league can be 2nd best: IPL COO

The COO of the Indian Premier League Sundar Raman has shown great interest in the newly announced South Africa T20 League. According to Cricket South Africa, no T20 league has surpassed the level of IPL, and will not be able to do so in future. However, since CSA is on the verge of launching a T20 tournament, the board believes that it can be the second-best in the field after the cash-rich league and Sundar is set to have his part in it.

Recently, CSA announced its new project, the inaugural edition of which will be played in early 2023. The board will also invite big names from across the globe to participate in the auction, set to take place before the T20 league starts.

CSA’s friendly relations with the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) are apparent. For the league’s establishment, the IPL COO has decided to acquire a stake worth 12.5%. Also, as many as four franchises, including the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) have shown their interests in regards.

According to the document tabled at CSA meeting for the league, the board is eying to create the second best T20 league after the IPL. That paper reads,

“The success of the IPL has changed the face and the economics of the BCCI, and CSA also has an opportunity to launch a project that a decade from now could redefine the landscape and economics of cricket in South Africa.”

CSA sets apart PSL, says no T20 league is near success equal to IPL and South Africa T20 league can be 2nd best

The IPL COO and the CSA documents in regards of the newly launched league have set apart every T20 tournament, and say that no league yet has passed the level of IPL. It must be noted that South Africa T20 league, yet to be named, will feature six teams in the first season.

The document further reads,

“Outside of the IPL, no other premier domestic T20 league has had runaway success. CSA should therefore focus on the opportunity to create the second-best T20 league in the world,”
