ODIs removed from Pakistan tour of Sri Lanka

Pakistan Cricket Team will be touring the island nation just for two Test matches as three ODIs have been removed from the Pakistan tour of Sri Lanka. The decision has been taken at the request of the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). Notably, the Tests are part of the ICC Test Championship 2021-23 whereas, the 50-over matches were not included in the ICC World Cup Super League.

Recently, the host nation has suffered a lot and the situation is not yet settled in terms of financial and political crisis. This has played a big role in affecting Pak vs SL series. Due to the power shortage in the nation, it will be almost impossible to host day-night encounters.

Pakistan tour of Sri Lanka: PCB media director reveals major reason behind cancellation of ODIs

Sami ul Hasan Burney, the media director of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) noted SLC’s request and has revealed the updated schedule of the Pakistan tour of Sri Lanka will be on the screen in a shorter course. He has stated that SLC is looking to kick-start Lanka Premier League a week before its schedule, which has become the major reason for the cancellation of the Pak vs ODI series. Moreover, the host board believes that LPL can contribute to eliminating the financial crisis.

Sami, as quoted by Cricket Pakistan, said that,

“Sri Lankan board wants to start their league a week ago to reduce the economic deficit, so they asked us to remove the ODI series, which was accepted,”

“Since the ODIs were not part of the World Cup Super League, we did not object. The final schedule of the series is still being discussed and will be released soon,”
