Outcomes of first meeting under new PCB chairman

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) witnessed a significant moment as the newly-formed management committee, led by new PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf, convened for its inaugural meeting at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore. The committee received a warm welcome from NCA director Zakir Khan and other officials, who expressed their unwavering confidence in Ashraf’s leadership, deeming his appointment as a positive step for Pakistan cricket.

During the meeting, the Chief Finance Officer presented an overview of the PCB budget, while discussions encompassed crucial matters such as stadium construction and the central contract of domestic players.

Chairing the meeting, Zaka Ashraf affirmed his unwavering commitment to the improvement of cricket and the well-being of cricketers. He emphasized the need to address allegations of rigging in the elections of regions and associations, highlighting the importance of transparent elections in these domains.

Expressing his gratitude to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Asif Zardari, Ashraf acknowledged their influential roles and pledged to honor the trust they placed in him. He emphasized the importance of unity and collective efforts for the betterment of Pakistan cricket, stating, “We all have to work together for the betterment of Pakistan cricket.”

Ashraf emphasized the need for improvement in various areas, including preparations for the Asia Cup and the World Cup. He instructed the Chief Operating Officer, Salman Naseer, to provide all necessary documents to the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination for an audit.

Furthermore, Ashraf stressed the significance of providing excellent facilities in domestic cricket to nurture talented players. He highlighted plans to enhance stadiums in Abbottabad, Mirpur, and Hyderabad, upgrade hospitality boxes, and offer more amenities for cricket fans. Additionally, he emphasized the need to augment the Pakistan Cricket Board’s revenue.

Taking into account the fervent desire of cricket enthusiasts in Peshawar, Ashraf emphasized the timely completion of Arbab Niaz Stadium to enable fans to enjoy Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches in their city.

Concluding the meeting, the management committee approved the participation of Zaka Ashraf, Salman Naseer, and Faisal Hasnain in the upcoming International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting.

The maiden gathering of the PCB’s new management committee set a positive tone for the future, displaying a shared commitment to advancing Pakistani cricket across various domains.
