Pak vs SL Tests: One who gifts and keeps PCB happy gets select, says Danish Kaneria

Pak vs SL Tests: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced an 18-player squad on Wednesday for the away Test series against Sri Lanka and the ex-Pakistani cricketer, Danish Kaneria has something to say about it. The spin bowler believes the squad is not justified and based on favouritism.

The board has named leg-spinner Yasir Shah in the squad who last played a Test match in August 2021. There are a few new faces for the two-match series which is scheduled to be played next month.

Kaneria said he has no idea how the PCB chairman Ramiz Raja approved the squad. According to him, spinner Sajid Khan has been treated unfairly as he targetted the selection of Yasir in the team.

“I don’t understand on what basis the selectors have picked the team. Seems like the selectors will never improve and think about players while picking a team. I don’t know how Ramiz Raja approved this team. Some changes were needed after Australia defeated Pakistan in their own backyard. Off-spinner Sajid Khan played all Test matches against Australia but Pakistan didn’t give chance to Yasir Shah, who would have gotten exposed against the Aussie batters. Sajid has been unfairly treated,”

The former cricketer feels that PCB needs to make a team concerning future schedules and not based on favours. He feels one who appeals to the board with gifts gets selected whereas, the hardworking players are ignored.

The bowler also opined that since Sarfaraz Ahmed will not make it to the playing XI because of Mohammad Rizwan, the board should have named a youngster in place of him.

“Sarfaraz has also been included in the test set-up. He won’t be getting into the eleven because of Mohammad Rizwan. Instead of Sarfaraz, a young player could have been a part of the side,”

“Pakistan need to make a team for the future but seems like the current selection committee is doing favors. One who offers gifts and keeps selectors happy gets into the team. Hardworking and honest players are being treated unfairly,”

The 18 players named for Pak vs SL Test series are

Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan (vice-captain, wicketkeeper), Abdullah Shafique, Azhar Ali, Faheem Ashraf, Fawad Alam, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Imam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Nawaz, Naseem Shah, Nauman Ali, Salman Ali Agha, Sarfaraz Ahmed (wicketkeeper), Saud Shakeel, Shaheen Afridi, Shan Masood and Yasir Shah
