Pak vs WI: West Indies left with one chance to avoid whitewash

After Pakistan won the ODI series opener versus the West Indies, the guests had a chance to win the series, or at least avoid a whitewash, however, after losing the second ODI, they are left with a final chance to avoid the clean sweep. Pakistan have won the three-match ODI series by 2-0 with the final match to spare, scheduled to be played on June 12th at Multan Cricket Stadium.

Earlier in the day, the hosts won the toss and elected to bat first. In front of the quality bowling from the West Indies, the men in green could not surpass 300 runs and totalled 275 with the loss of eight wickets. Babar Azam and Imam ul Haq were the top two scorers respectively scoring 77 and 72 runs on 93 and 72 balls.

As far as West Indies’ bowling panel is concerned, Akeal Hossein got a three-wicket haul yielding 52 runs whereas, Alzarri Joseph turned out to be pretty economical yielding 33 runs. Anderson Philip conceded 50 runs plucking two wickets and bowled eight overs.

After the guests walked on the ground to chase, Pakistani bowlers gave them hard time to cope with. Mohammad Nawaz the best of all who clutched a four-wicket haul and gave away only 19 runs. The next best was Wasim Jnr who although leaked 34 runs in 4.2 overs but contributed with two wickets. Shadab Khan threw 40 runs towards them and got two of their men bowling nine of the overs.

It must be noted that Sharmarh Brooks was the highest run-maker from West Indies’ end and topped with 42 runs from 56 balls. The struggling batting line-up saw Kyle Mayers adding 33 runs from 25 balls next whereas, Nicholas Pooran tried his best and got out on 25. The rest of the batters could not do much as the line-up collapsed on a low total of 155 runs.

It is pertinent to mention here that Pak vs WI ODI series is part of the last year’s tour, that was cancelled due to COVID hit in the guests’ camp.
