Ahmedabad, with its impressive stadium capacity of over 100,000, will be the center of attention as it hosts some of the most high-profile matches. The blockbuster clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan is scheduled to take place on October 15, setting the stage for an intense showdown. Moreover, Ahmedabad will witness the opening match between England and New Zealand on October 5, a rematch of the thrilling tied final from 2019. Chennai will be the venue for India’s campaign opener against Australia on October 8, adding further excitement to the early stages of the tournament.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has prepared the initial draft schedule, which has been shared with the International Cricket Council (ICC). The participating countries have been given an opportunity to provide feedback before the final schedule is announced next week. The delay in releasing the schedule has also affected ticketing details, causing some inconvenience for fans eager to make travel arrangements, particularly those from overseas.

Pakistan’s schedule for World Cup 2023

The draft schedule outlines Pakistan’s journey in the tournament, with the team set to play across five different venues during the group stage. Apart from their highly-anticipated match against India in Ahmedabad, Pakistan will face the teams progressing from the Qualifier on October 6 and 12 in Hyderabad. They will also go head-to-head against Australia in Bengaluru on October 20, followed by clashes with Afghanistan (October 23) and South Africa (October 27) in Chennai. The team’s remaining fixtures include matches against Bangladesh in Kolkata on October 31, New Zealand in Bengaluru on November 5 (day match), and England in Kolkata on November 12, which is slated to be the final match of the group stage.

The draft schedule, however, does not reveal the venues for the semi-finals, which are expected to take place on November 15 and 16. The final will be held on November 19 in Ahmedabad, the same venue as the opening game. The schedule also features several other enticing encounters, such as Australia versus New Zealand in Dharamsala on October 29, Australia versus England in Ahmedabad on November 4, and New Zealand versus South Africa in Pune on November 1.

The delay in finalizing the schedule for the ICC World Cup 2023 has been unprecedented, with the tournament rapidly approaching in just four months’ time. In previous editions, the schedule had been finalized over a year in advance. Nonetheless, with the draft schedule now released, fans can start eagerly counting down the days until the world’s top cricketing nations battle it out for the coveted trophy.
