PCB confirms tri-nation series in New Zealand before World Cup 2022

PCB confirms tri-nation series in New Zealand before World Cup 2022

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been mulling over a tri-nation or four-nation series since Cricket Australia (CA) presented an idea to do so. After the PCB showed interest, the other two preferred contestants India and England turned down the initiative. However, PCB’s dream to participate in a tri-nation series has come true since chairman Ramiz Raja has confirmed playing it in New Zealand before the T20 World Cup 2022.

The tri-nation series will include Bangladesh, Pakistan, and New Zealand. Earlier, CA opined for a series so that Pakistan and India get to play together. The last time when the arch-rivals faced each other in a bilateral series was back in 2012. Since then, they have been meeting in the ACC and ICC competitions.

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) is expected to announce the schedule of the series in a short course. As far as men in green’s departure is concerned, they will leave for the Kiwis’ county on October 4th. This will serve as the practice forum for the three participants ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 scheduled for October-November in Australia.

While talking to a group of reporters, Ramiz revealed,

“After receiving confirmation dates from the touring England side that is due here in Pakistan on September 15, we have confirmed our participation in the tri-nation series to be hosted by Cricket New Zealand. I wanted my team to play a few internationals more or less amid Australian environments, ahead of the World Cup. Now the team will be having a good opportunity to test their combination and leading players’ form during the tri-nation series in New Zealand,”
